State Services Commissioner Iain Rennie has today announced the appointment of Chai Chuah as Acting Director-General for Health and Chief Executive of the Ministry Health.

Mr Chuah is currently the Ministry of Health's National Director of the National Health Board.

Before joining the Ministry of Health, Mr Chuah was Chief Executive of Hutt Valley District Health Board and was a member of District Health Boards New Zealand's CEOs' Executive until June 2009. He served on the National Steering Committee for Quality Improvement Committee programmes, and was a member of the Health Information Strategy Advisory Committee. Mr Chuah also led the steering committee that developed the 2005 New Zealand Health Information Strategy.

Mr Chuah will take up the Acting Director-General position from 8 November 2013 when the current Director-General, Kevin Woods, leaves the Ministry.

The State Services Commission is currently recruiting for a permanent Director-General for Health.
