The Secretary for Transport provides strategic leadership of the transport system and is the Chief Executive for the Ministry of Transport.

The Ministry of Transport is the Government’s principal advisor on transport to ensure the transport system can meet New Zealand’s needs now and into the future.  The Ministry provides advice on:

  • legislative, policy and regulatory settings for all modes of transport
  • investment settings for transport, and approaches to address the challenges facing the transport revenue system in the longer term
  • Crown entity governance, performance, and accountability.

The Ministry works in partnership with agencies across the transport sector, including Crown entities (Waka Kotahi, Civil Aviation Authority, Maritime New Zealand and Transport Accident Investigation Commission), City Rail Link Ltd, State-Owned enterprises with transport functions (Airways Corporation, Meteorological Service, and KiwiRail Holdings Ltd), local government and New Zealand Police.

We are looking for an experienced leader to provide stewardship across the transport system as Secretary for Transport and Chief Executive.

This is an opportunity for a senior leader with strong credibility within the transport sector and/or significant experience in organisational management, policy advice, sector leadership and Crown entity governance and monitoring, to step up to this significant chief executive role.
