Public Service Commissioner Sir Brian Roche has welcomed the Employment Relations Authority’s determination agreeing to facilitate bargaining with the Post Primary Teachers Association.

“We applied to the Employment Relations Authority (ERA) under urgency for facilitation as we want to progress bargaining as efficiently as possible. While we have made several good faith offers to the Post Primary Teachers Association, we have been unable to reach an agreement with them.

“It is my strong hope the ERA will be able to help us come to an agreement. I want to do everything possible to avoid further disruptive strikes for students and parents, as well as to get additional money into teachers’ pockets as soon as possible. That’s why we made this application to the ERA and we are pleased the ERA has accepted it,” Sir Brian said.

Facilitation means an ERA member will decide what process will be used to help bargaining. At the end of the facilitation process, the ERA can publish its recommendation and make recommendations about the process the parties should use to reach agreement, and/or the terms and conditions of the collective agreement. More information is available on the Employment New Zealand website.
