New Zealand has lost a statesman of conviction and principle with the passing of the Rt Hon Jim Bolger.
The former Prime Minister served New Zealand with distinction across more than three decades in public life.
“Mr Bolger was a man of integrity and conviction, he was deeply committed to reconciliation, fairness, and public service,” said Sir Brian.
“His leadership was marked by pragmatism, courage, and a steadfast belief in preparing New Zealand for a better future.
“I had the privilege of working alongside Mr Bolger while he was Prime Minister, including on the Ngāi Tahu claim, and then after he left politics on the establishment of the Gas Industry Company and the New Zealand Post Group. He has had a significant impact on my career.
“His dedication to public service never wavered. He set an example for others to follow, including three of his children currently serving at senior levels within the public service.
“On behalf of the public service, I extend my deepest condolences to his wife Joan, their nine children, and all those who knew and loved him. He served with grace and dignity.”
