As the Government’s external education evaluation and monitoring agency, the Education Review Office (ERO) holds a critical role in enabling and lifting the performance of schools, early learning services, kōhanga reo and kura across New Zealand. The Government is committed to delivering world-class public education, improving attendance and engagement, lifting academic achievement, and delivering positive change for New Zealand children and future generations.
We are looking for a senior leader to serve as the Chief Review Officer and Chief Executive of ERO to lead the organisation and guide the system through a period of significant change. A key focus for the Chief Review Officer will be ensuring ERO provides independent, robust, evidence-based insights that drive improvements in teaching, leadership and learner outcomes, championing innovation, performance and continuous improvement across the sector. They will also oversee the integration of new regulatory functions (subject to legislation), including the establishment of a Director of Regulation.
The successful candidate will have strong strategic leadership and analytical capabilities, with a record of improving outcomes at the front-line of public service delivery. They will have inspired and delivered change across their career, and built respected and trusted relationships with Ministers and stakeholders – including in contested environments. A deep understanding of the education sector, including opportunities for how evaluation and regulation could drive performance, is preferred.
