Te Kawa Mataaho Public Service Commission provides guidance to boards of statutory Crown entities and Tertiary Education Institutions (TEIs) on chief executive employment terms, including remuneration. Boards are responsible for employing chief executives and must obtain the Commissioner’s consent before finalising terms and conditions.

Under Section 117 of the Crown Entities Act 2004, board chairs must seek the Commissioner’s consent when appointing, reappointing, or reviewing the performance of a chief executive.

Chief executive remuneration is disclosed annually on the Commission’s website, as part of performance review reporting. This public disclosure supports transparency and accountability across the public sector.

Since 2010, the Commission has reported publicly on senior leader remuneration at Cabinet’s request, covering Crown agents, other statutory entities, and TEIs.
