Tēnā koutou i roto i ngā āhuatanga i te wā.

I am very pleased to announce that the Spirit of Service Awards and Public Service Day Awards 2020 are now open for nominations.

Public servants do incredible work every day for New Zealand and New Zealanders and this year, we have also faced one of our biggest challenges as a nation.  The awards are an opportunity to nurture the spirit of service public servants bring to their work, promote public service values and share ways of working that are delivering great results for New Zealand.

Now is the time to share the stories of those exceptional public sector initiatives and public servants whose efforts -- driven by their spirit of service -- have truly made a difference. We want to hear these stories.

The Spirit of Service Awards celebrate outstanding public sector initiatives that deliver great outcomes motivated by a spirit of service to the community. You’ll find all the information you need to enter the five categories for the Spirit of Service Awards.

The Public Service Day Awards recognise public servants who demonstrate exceptional commitment to their work, the highest standard of integrity, and a spirit of service to New Zealanders. Information about how to nominate outstanding public servants for Public Service Day Awards can be found here

Award winners will be announced in November. I’d like to thank the generous sponsors helping to support the Spirit of Service Awards event in Wellington: Australia and New Zealand School of Government, Westpac, DXC Technology and Victoria University of Wellington School of Government.

I’m excited about these awards. Public servants go about their work quietly without expecting any thanks. Those who go the extra mile to serve our communities deserve recognition.

We’ve seen some truly inspirational public servants – and work initiatives – nominated in past Spirit of Service and Public Service Day Awards. Given the issues and events challenging our country, I expect this year’s nominees to be just as inspirational. I can’t wait to see our nominations!

Hei konā mai i roto i ngā mihi!
